Update

Well well, time flies as my last post said. My surveyor 3 project has been on ice for a good while now, I haven't had the inspiration to scratchbuild, so I've been doing a lot of warhammer 40k building and painting instead. Just so you poor people don't feel left out, here are some pics of my "new" 40k stuff.

Time flies

February already? Where'd time go. Anyway the Yellow Contest is over and done with, I didn't win any prizes which was a disappointment, I had high hopes for my scratchbuilt diorama, but what can you do when you're up against kits and premade models, not to mention people who've spent years (yes, years) on their dioramas. Scratchbuilding and original designs sadly isn't appreciated as it should be.

I got my diorama pics online (finally), here.
I'll put my scratchbuild pics up as well once I get around to it.

Right now I'm continuing work on my surveyor 3 diorama, I'm planning to enter it into the next starshipmodeler contest so it'll be under wraps I reckon, but I can't leave you folks hanging so here's a little sneaky peek at what it looks like right now.

Update

Well my first contest entry is done, my second one is progressing nicely. I did take some time off to paint a wh40k miniature just to take my mind off the contest so I don't burn myself out. Here he is, assault marine sergeant.

Building Contest Entries

I thought I'd let you all know that I'm building a model for a online contest right now, so updates won't be as frequent as "normal" for a good while. Since it's for a contest I'm keeping the model under wraps from public view, but will post once voting has been done and I've gotten my prize (well here's hoping anyway). It's not due til new years eve though so as you can imagine I'm putting some heavy work into it. I'm happy to announce that I'm back into full gear as far as building goes, I still have bad days and don't get much done, but at least there's progress.

I'll try to at least update once every other week or so, probably with more warhammer 40,000 stuff since I'm poking at them while waiting for glue to dry and such.

Capsule Landing

I've been trying to get this posted a few times in the past days but blogspot hasn't been cooperative. So here goes again. The capsule landing diorama is done (well was done a good while ago, just haven't been able to post), for size reference the base itself is just about the size of a deck of cards.

The figures are from a submarine model I built with my father years and years ago (bout 15 years or so), it's gathering dust on the shelf and I keep it out of sentimental value, still doesn't mean I won't take parts of it for my new models if in a jam.

Slowly picking up speed...

Well, I've finished painting a miniature, it's for a tabletop game by games workshop named Warhammer 40,000. I remember I bought this guy ages ago, just cause of the cool look. While looking through my old unpainted miniatures I found a few other ones I've always felt like painting but never got around to, so they're in my "to do" box.

I've also started working on a small diorama of a capsule landing, a couple guys from the retrieval crew standing around it. I'm planning to pull lines from the capsule and mold the crumpled parachute heap out of putty, quite looking forward to it.

Surveyor III - Project Frozen

Well I got some bad news, I'm putting my surveyor III diorama project on ice for now. I've only done minor stuff on it for the past 6 weeks or so, I havent been doing well and that has taken its toll on my modelling. I'm getting slowly back into shape, and to put my mind at rest I decided last night to freeze the scratchbuilding for now since I simply dont have the energy and concentration for being creative to the point needed.

To get back in the saddle I've decided to start by painting some of my Warhammer 40,000 models, I used to play the game a lot and have a heap of unpainted models, I'm expecting this to help me get back to modelling.

Surveyor III - WiP Update

Well I got the landing struts made, been debating how detailed I should make them, will add some bits and pieces, but they wont be exact models of the original probe's struts. As you can see I've finished one leg with suspensions, and size testing the fuel tanks. Still not sure if I'll use those tanks as they are, sand them down a bit in size, or model new ones from putty.
